Jakarta, August 1, 2012: PT Astra Agro Lestari (AAL) has managed to extend its list of awards given by the public after winning three awards this year. The three awards, which are concerned with the seriousness of the oil palm plantation company to implement the programs of corporate social responsibility (CSR), are “Indonesia Green Award 2012” initiated by Bisnis & CSR magazine, and “Social Business Innovation Award 2012”, and “20 Green CEO 2012”, which are both presented by Warta Ekonomi magazine.
“We’re very grateful for the presentation of the awards. The CSR awards have also shown that our company’s activities are in line with the mission we’ve set, which is to contribute for the nation welfare and development,” said Joko Supriyono, director of PT AAL after receiving the awards.
PT AAL is considered as one of the companies “inspiring” the earth. That is the reason why the team of jury of the Indonesia Green Award has decided to present AAL with the award. “Its environmental conservation is pursued through ways of production that are environmentally friendly.” That is the point adopted by the team of jury as the strong basis to decide PT AAL as the winner of Indonesia Green Award 2012 for the category of green agro industry. Industry Minister MS Hidayat presented the award to AAL ESR Director Joko Supriyono, in Hotel Indonesia Kempinski, on Tuesday (July 10, 2012).
The Indonesia Green Award, which is an arena of competition for companies and people in the field of environmental conservation, is organized by Bisnis & CSR magazine, in cooperation with the Indonesian ministry of forestry and the ministry of industry. The award is only given to companies and people who have inspired the earth through their efforts.
Besides considering that AAL has applied a sustainable way of production, the team of jury has also seen that AAL pursuing efforts of conserving the nature to protect the biodiversity in several areas having high values of conservation. “All of AAL’s green initiatives are implemented according to the principles of green industry,” said the team of jury.
The other two awards from Warta Ekonomi magazine were presented on Tuesday (July 31, 2012) in Hotel JW Marriot. AAL President Director Widya Wiryawan won the “Green CEO 2012”. The award was given to appreciate the top leader of the company chosen as the winner for his or her achievement in realizing a sustainable corporation.
A sustainable corporation is a corporation that applies the sustainable principles in its business strategy and contributes towards environmental conservation and has social responsibility. In this regard, the team of jury of Warta Ekonomi combined the concept of corporate sustainability and the concept of green.
Besides the Green CEO Award, PT AAL has also won “Social Business Innovation Award 2012”. The award was given by Warta Ekonomi to companies that have managed to take innovative steps in developing their corporate social responsibility (CSR) toward a more sustainable company and at the same time managed to strike a balance among the three pillars of CSR concept, namely its responsibility to the society, environment, and to the stakeholders or commonly known as people, planet, and profit.
