Jakarta – After completing the 2018-2020 Sustainability Action Plan, Astra Agro is one step ahead in continuing to implement the principle of sustainability. This commitment is undertaken through the establishment of the 2021-2025 Sustainability Action Plan.
“This advanced phase will be more comprehensive and will be implemented in operations properly,” said Chief Executive Officer of Astra Agro, Santosa during the Talk to The CEO 2022 event which took place online, February 15, 2022.
This action plan for the next five years was prepared after going through the evaluation phase of the implementation of the previous action plan, in collaboration with a third independent party. From the evaluation results, it is informed that most of the targets set have been well achieved. However, some targets are still in the process of being fulfilled where there are delays as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic. The purpose of this evaluation is also to provide strategic recommendations for the next action plan.
In addition to recommendations for evaluation results, the determination of an action plan for the next five years is also formulated taking into account lessons learned from the experience of the three-year action plan including challenges and obstacles during the process, suggestions and input from stakeholders, as well as identification of future challenges.
“The determination of this action plan is a further step from Astra Agro’s commitment and consistency in meeting sustainability policies,” continued Santosa.
In the action plan, Astra Agro affirms its commitment to consistently carry out forest and peat conservation. Do not carry out deforestation, forest burning and actions that damage the environment. The strategy for reducing green house gas (GHG) emissions in accordance with national commitments is also continued.
In addition, Astra Agro is also committed to upholding human, labor and community rights, as well as supporting sustainability programs in all subsidiaries.
Not only applying the principle of sustainability into the company’s operations. Astra Agro also cooperates with all relevant stakeholders including farming communities in the company’s supply chain network to continue to raise awareness and jointly apply the principles of sustainability.(*)
