World Environment Day, celebrated every June 5 since 1972, is a global initiative aimed at raising awareness and education about environmental issues such as climate change. On this occasion, PT Letawa encouraged participation from society in various activities in supporting the environment, from waste processing and tree planting. These activities involved more than 200 students and teachers from Kalukumbeo Elementary School, and 50 students from Mekar Elementary School actively involved in socialization and tree planting.
In addition, 15 members of the ‘Inisiasi Muda’ youth movement team led by Fathur Marhas, accompanied by PT Letawa’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) team led by Ahmad Faizal and Guruh Budi, and Tikke Raya sub-district head Mus Muliadi, were involved in this activity. PT Letawa’s Administrative Manager (ADM) Unari Asrmidi, represented by CSR Assistant Ahmad Faizal, said that PT Letawa is committed to collaboration and cooperation in protecting the environment. Through this activity, Faizal hopes to instil awareness and concern for the environment from an early age to school children. “By involving the younger generation through Inisiasi Muda, it is expected to encourage more youth to participate in environmental conservation efforts,” hoped Faizal in his statement, Thursday (6/6/2024).
Sub-district Head Mus Muliadi expressed his appreciation for the initiative of ‘Inisiasi Muda’ and PT Letawa’s role in supporting positive activities for school children and youth in the Tikke Raya area. “Active participation of youth in environmental activities is very important for a better future,” explained Muliadi. Fathur Marhas, Chairperson of Inisiasi Muda, emphasized the importance of youth involvement in this activity. “We hope that the younger generation can be more productive and active in community activities, especially in terms of concern for the environment,” explained Muliadi.
The Head of Kalukumbeo Lariang Elementary School, Fendi Eko Widodo, expressed his gratitude and appreciation, saying that this activity is very relevant to his school’s vision, which is to realize school citizens who have achievements, character, and environmental insight. “Thank you to PT Letawa and Inisiasi Muda for organizing this activity,” said Fendi.
One of the Kalukumbeo Elementary School students, Aulya, expressed her enthusiasm for the activity with representatives of PT Letawa and Inisiasi Muda. “We planted avocado and mangosteen trees. We hope these trees will grow and bear fruit soon,” said Aulya.
While PT Letawa’s Community Development Officer (CDO), Agus Setiawan said, this activity aims to invite the younger generation and the community to be more concerned about the environment. “This activity is PT Letawa’s CSR program through Astra Hijau to provide education to students and youth in preserving the environment according to the company’s vision of sustainable development,” he added.
