PT Gunung Sejahtera Puti Pesona (GSPP) empowers the youth of Arga Mulya Village, Pangkalan Banteng District, West Kotawaringin Regency, Central Kalimantan, through the village’s creative economy program. The company facilitates the cultivation of catfish and utilizes long-abandoned ponds. “The construction of this aquaculture facility encourages youth empowerment in Arga Mulya. With the assistance of PT GSPP, it will certainly be able to help boost the village economy to be sustainable because it is not only providing seeds and feed but also supervision in program implementation,” said Suharto, Head of Arga Mulya Village on Friday (12/07/2024).
Suharto revealed that they transformed and utilized an abandoned pond into aquaculture to encourage a creative economy. With the Tunas Muda Farmer Group’s involvement, under the management of the Arga Mulya Youth Organization, aquaculture has been managed regularly and systematically.
“Through catfish farming, we hope to produce high-quality fresh fish. If it goes well, we plan to open a fishing pond so that this business can continue to grow and, of course, can last for a long time,” said the Head of Tunas Muda Farmer Group on the same occasion. PT GSPP Administrator Azizul Husni Reza stated that the company is committed to providing benefits to communities around oil palm plantations. This community empowerment is the significance of the creative economy program that considers sustainable non-oil palm businesses. Maintaining the sustainability of fish and the performance of human resources, PT GSPP regularly supervises fish maintenance, starting from feeding and fish health.
Not only aquaculture operations, PT GSPP provides financial management training so that it can project constraints and potential risks to its business. “This monitoring continues so that the community may feel the benefits in the long term, and the villagers also continue to gain new insights into managing businesses such as fish farming. If the development and productivity are reviewed to increase progressively, the community can expand the business,” Reza concluded.
