Kelapa genjah entok is a superior variety of coconut that originates from Indonesia. This variety has several benefits that make it appealing to farmers and agribusiness stakeholders. Farmers often choose Kelapa genjah entok due to its potential to deliver faster and more stable yields. This characteristic makes it suitable for farm diversification in both local and export markets.
The Biru Bersih Farmer Group in Labangka Village, Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), is continuing to cultivate early maturing coconut with support from PT Sukses Tani Nusasubur (STN), a subsidiary of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AALI). On Monday, November 25, 2024, they conducted monitoring and evaluation (M&E) of their cultivation efforts.
The M&E agenda, carried out by the Biru Bersih Farmer Group, aimed to ensure the success of programs related to planting, maintenance, and utilization of the early maturing coconut. This initiative is part of the East Kalimantan Governor Decree Number 522/K.530/2021, which establishes a Food Management Agency for Greening East Kalimantan Province and aims to enhance the community’s economy.
Victor Aybund, the Administrative Manager of PT STN, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to promoting the sustainability of the food greening program, particularly through the cultivation of kelapa genjah entok coconut.
“This CSR food greening program will sustainably address the food needs of the local community,” said Victor Aybund.
“At present, our efforts are focused on the Biru Bersih Farmer Group. We hope that in the future, the benefits of this initiative can reach a wider audience,” he continued.
During the monitoring and evaluation (M&E) process, discussions were held about cultivating kelapa genjah entok varieties.
A visit was organized to the plantation of Syarifuddin, a member of the farmer group.
The healthy growth of the plants was a positive highlight of this activity, demonstrating the significant potential that could be optimized with more intensive management.
Duratman Momo, a member of the Green Food Chain Management Agency (BP2UP) of East Kalimantan Province, expressed his appreciation for PT STN’s efforts to support sustainable food management.
‘The early maturing coconut growth managed by the Biru Bersih Farmer Group is excellent. In the future, routine maintenance needs to be improved. Thank you to PT STN for their contribution. We hope that this collaboration will continue so that the beneficiaries can continue to grow,’ said Duratma Momo.
According to him, in the early stages of growth, the early maturing coconut showed positive results with healthy green leaves and stable stem growth.
This demonstrates effective management, from providing quality seeds and tilling to routine maintenance practices such as fertilization and pest control.
“Farmers and farmer groups managing this cultivation need to continue with intensive maintenance. This includes regular watering, pruning dry leaves, and closely monitoring plant conditions to detect any diseases or pests as early as possible,” Duratma emphasized.
Dedi Mulyadi, Chairman of the Biru Bersih Farmer Group, stated that the support from PT STN and the government serves as a great motivation for his group to enhance the productivity and quality of their cultivation.
“We feel greatly assisted by this kind of support. With this encouraging development, the early maturing coconut has become a symbol of hope for the Biru Bersih Farmer Group, representing a more prosperous and productive future,” he expressed.
Victor added that the food greening program is expected to have a long-term positive impact on the surrounding community, particularly in enhancing the local economy.
The company is dedicated to ongoing collaboration with the government and local communities to ensure sustainability in all its programs.
“This growth not only reflects the success of the cultivation program but also represents a strategic step towards supporting various aspects of sustainability and the well-being of the surrounding community. This is a clear demonstration of the company’s commitment to social and environmental responsibility,” said Victor.
