The application of disruptive technologies will be the driver of innovations in all sectors including the palm oil industry, Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Datuk Dr Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali said.
He said technologies have been innovated and improved to boost the effectiveness and competitiveness of the upstream, midstream, and downstream sectors of the oil palm industry.
“Oil palm yield and by-products can be enhanced by 23% compared with 19% through upgrading and improving the usage of technology at the plantation and production levels.
“Technology, for instance, will be essential in value-adding a product and driving the palm oil industry forward to ensure it does not become obsolete,” he said in a keynote address at the virtual Global Agritech Summit 2021 today.
Mohd Khairuddin noted that oil palm has followed in the footsteps of other crops in decoding its genome and simultaneously answering questions about the biology of oil palm.
“Efforts have also been devoted to automate and mechanise the industry as a solution to address the labour supply issue,” he added.
