Jakarta, September 1, 2022: Astra Agro Lestari has further demonstrated its commitment to implementing sustainability principles. At the G20 Parallel Event held in Nusa Dua Bali, August 30, the Astra Group oil palm plantation company signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with PT Pertamina.
“Astra Agro has a commitment to support the Indonesian Government’s climate change prevention and decarbonization program in order to achieve the emission reduction target in accordance with the Indonesian government’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC),” said Director of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, M. Hadi Sugeng, after signing the memorandum of understanding.
As is known, Astra Agro’s sustainability program, according to Hadi, one of which is committed to implementing various efforts to reduce Green House Gas (GHG) emissions in its business processes.
To achieve the decarbonization target that has been set, Astra Agro Lestari and Pertamina work together to develop low-emission projects by utilizing palm oil waste (empty fruit bunch and palm oil mill effluent) to become Bioethanol and Biomethane products that can be used as substitutes for fossil fuels and support national energy independence.
“We hope that this MoU can provide the results of comprehensive studies and studies related to the Bioethanol development project from oil palm empty fruit bunch (EFB) and Biomethane from palm oil mill effluent,” said M. Hadi Sugeng. This, according to him, is the foundation for potential business cooperation in the development of renewable energy in the future which can directly support Astra Agro Lestari’s decarbonization efforts and support national energy independence.(*)
