The uncertainty of the weather climate in the Krueng No coastal area in Aceh Jaya has driven one of the palm oil companies in the area, PT Tunggal Perkasa Plantation 3 (TPP3), to take positive steps for the environment.
The company planted mangroves on the Krueng No beach on Friday (5/6/2024).
Mangrove forests are often called brackish forests or, more commonly, mangrove forests. They are called brackish forests, as the plants grow on a substrate (growing medium) that is inundated with a mixture of seawater and fresh water.
The combination of the two makes the water in the area brackish. It is called a mangrove forest because people often recognize it because of the dominant mangrove species.
Krueng No Beach is located in the Ring One village of PT Tunggal Perkasa Plantation 3 (TPP3) in Aceh Jaya.
Yes, the company engaged in the palm oil industry, a subsidiary of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (Astra Agro), took the initiative to plant mangrove plants on Krueng No Beach.
The initial planting began with 200 mangrove trees on the coast on Friday (5/6/2024) after obtaining a permit and collaborating with the Aceh Jaya District Environment Office and the Aceh Mangrove Institute.
This initial planting was not only carried out as an activity to celebrate the peak of World Environment Day commemoration; PT TPP3 also saw the potential to contribute to protecting the environment, which has become the company’s commitment in the form of concern and social responsibility for the environment and surrounding communities.
“Krueng No Beach is one of the vital locations for the community; we can see that the beach is very close to the highway, which the locals often pass,” said Cipta Wibama Operational, Director Area Aceh, who attended the mangrove planting ceremony that afternoon.
The planting was attended by the Director of Aceh Mangrove Institute, who is also the director of the planting procedure, which will be carried out by hundreds of teams from TPP3. Abdul Hadi expressed his appreciation to TPP3 for the program, which was not the first time carried out by Astra Agro’s subsidiary in Aceh.
Riduan Manik Community Development Area Manager Aceh, through Azra Husaini, confirmed that PT TPP3 is indeed not the only Astra Agro subsidiary in Aceh to carry out this mangrove planting program. The pioneer is PT Perkebunan Lembah Bhakti (PLB) Aceh Singkil, which has been running this mangrove rehabilitation program since 2018 and is still sustainable. So far, Astra Agro’s subsidiaries in Aceh have planted around 41,000 mangroves.
