Five Astra Agro Lestari subsidiaries in the East Kalimantan area, namely PT Waru Kaltim Plantation (WKP), PT Sukses Tani Nusasubur (STN), PT Borneo Indah Marjaya (BIM), PT Palma Plantasindo (PPS), and PT Sumber Kharisma Persada (SKP), have been granted awards in the environmental category for their commitment in land and plantation fires (Karlabun) prevention. This award was given directly by the East Kalimantan Provincial Plantation Office at the 2024 Plantation Development Coordination Meeting, which took place at Gran Senyiur Hotel Balikpapan (07/15/24).
The event was attended by various external and internal parties, namely Mr. Zakaria as CSR Assistant of PT WKP-STN, Mr. Darwanto as Community Development Officer (CDO) of PT STN, Mr. Syukron as CDO of PT SKP, Mr. Anggy Setiawan as Sustainability of PT STN, Mr. Ir. E.A. Rafiddin Rizal S.T., M.Si., as Head of the East Kalimantan Provincial Plantation Office, Prof. Dr. Drs. Akmal Malik, M.Si., as PJ Governor of East Kalimantan, Mr. Rachmat Perdana Angga as Chairman of GAPKI Kaltim 2024-2029, as well as representatives from 48 other awardee companies.
The awarding theme, “Strengthening the Role of the Plantation Sub-Sector through Diversification of Competitive and Sustainable Strategic Leading Commodity Products”, emphasized the importance of diversification and sustainability in the plantation sector.
In his statement, PT WKP Administrator (ADM) Eko Andrianto said that this award is proof of the company’s commitment to protecting the plantation area and company partners from land and garden fires (Karlabun).
PT STN Administrator Victor Aybund, added that good collaboration between the company, the Fire Concerned Farmers Group (KTPA), and law enforcement has reduced the incidence of land and plantation fires in East Kalimantan compared to the previous year.
“The huge potential of plantation land in East Kalimantan must be accompanied by real execution from district and city governments, as well as the importance of preventing deforestation and land conversion from forest to plantation,” he said.
As Administrator of PT SKP, Mr. Tugiyono expressed his hope that the prevention and control of land and plantation fires will remain the main focus in East Kalimantan, which is a buffer zone for the Capital of the Archipelago (IKN).
As Administrator of PT BIM-PPS Pulung, Mr. Iman Santosa also emphasized the importance of prevention in controlling land and plantation fires, including mapping potentially burned areas and socializing fire hazards.
This award demonstrates the company’s commitment to protecting the environment and reducing the risk of land and plantation fires, as well as continuing to innovate in plantation sustainability practices in East Kalimantan.
