PT Sari Aditya Loka (PT SAL), a subsidiary of Astra Agro, together with the Merangin Regency Government, has launched ‘Mama Chatting’, an innovative programme to reduce stunting in Merangin Regency. The programme was inaugurated at the Coordination Meeting for the Acceleration of Stunting Prevention (TPPS) held at the Bappeda Merangin Hall, (06/08/2024).
PT SAL’s CSR Assistant, Slamet Riyadi, explained that this programme aims to prevent and treat stunting by involving health agents. Health agents will be assigned to data collection, health socialisation, and Supplementary Feeding (PMT) distribution with health workers from the community health centre and the local stunting task force.
Slamet Riyadi explained that SAL has carried out various initiatives to support this programme, including improving the posyandu’s (integrated health service post)service, fulfilling posyandu facilities and infrastructure, implementing posyandu activities, providing PMT, and incentives for posyandu cadres, as well as routinely training Germas Mandiri (KGM) cadres, which is a program to campaign for healthy lifestyle to educate Suku Anak Dalam (SAD). ‘We hope this programme may reduce the stunting in Merangin Regency,’ added Slamet.
The coordination meeting was chaired by Merangin’s Regional Secretary Fajarman and attended by several key officials, including Head of Merangin’s PPKB Office H. Abdaie, Head of Merangin’s PMD Office Andrei, Head of the Education and Culture Office Hennizor, Secretary of Merangin’s Bappeda Mrs Lydia Gusmita, Secretary of the Transportation Office M. Yunus, as well as representatives from PT SAL CSR, Bank 9 Jambi Bangko branch, BRI, BNI, and other invitees.
In his remarks, Secretary Fajarman expressed his concern about the increasing number of stunting in Merangin Regency, which was recorded at 733 cases in June 2024, up from 537 cases in August 2023. ‘This needs to be our common concern and focus as the stunting reduction target set for Merangin District in 2024 is nine per cent. This requires commitment from the TPPS and all related sectors,’ said the Secretary.
