Sangatta – Two subsidiaries of Astra Agro Lestari (AAL), PT Borneo Indah Marjaya (BIM) and PT Palma Plantasindo (PPS), are encouraging the community of Paser Belengkong Sub-district, Paser Regency to manage waste into valuable products through the Bank Sampah Unit (BSU).
‘The waste bank started from waste around the housing complex that has not been managed optimally. We also manage waste from residents alongside the waste from employees’ housing,’ said PT BIM-PPS BSU Director Evi Susilawati in a release received in Sangatta on Friday.
Evi said the BSU, formed in 2020, became a waste management centre for more than 600 employees who live in 13 blocks of official houses in the plantation area.
‘Waste management through waste banks is our effort to preserve the environment and improve the welfare of the community around the company,’ she said.
Waste management, Evi continued, is a blessing for the staff because the waste is processed into products such as candles, flower vases, and other products with economic value.
Astra Agro, according to Pulung, set a target in 2030 to collaborate Sustainability Aspiration Value through portfolio, people, and public contribution, as well as Good Corporate Governance (GCG).
‘We always maintain our commitment to participate in improving the welfare of society,’ Pulung said of the company’s motto, Prosper with the Nation, through the company’s involvement in creating a prosperous environment and society.
