Children play a vital role as the foundation of our nation’s future. The opportunities and environments provided for children to grow are essential in determining the future of a nation.
Unfortunately, not all children are fortunate, especially orphans and those living in poverty. This situation calls for intervention from various parties to support the integration of the nation’s growth.
The Astra Agro Employee Wives Association (PERISKA) at PT Gunung Sejahtera Ibu Pertiwi and PT Agro Menara Rachmat (GSIP-AMR), one of Astra Agro’s subsidiaries operating in Pangkalan Bun, Central Kalimantan, is actively demonstrating this commitment.
The association fosters love and support for disadvantaged children through donations to the Muhammadiyah Orphanage. In addition to contributions from mothers who are members of PERISKA, donations for orphans and individuals facing poverty are regularly collected by the association from PT GSIP-AMR staff and employees.
“The donations are distributed at least once every three months. Along with the Muhammadiyah Orphanage, we also reach out to other orphanages in our operational area or through local places of worship,” said Rahadhian Tegar, Head of Administration at PT GSIP-AMR.
Within the oil palm plantation community, harmony and kinship naturally develop. Many employees have relocated from various regions in search of better opportunities, and as Rahadhian Tegar noted, emotional bonds and relationships among community members support a culture of care for one another.
As social beings, maintaining relationships is essential. “As humans, we need other people in our lives. These values of humanity are continually fostered by the company among employees and the local community,” he added.
Orphans and the impoverished, as distinct community groups, require special attention, particularly in the areas of social, educational, and psychological welfare. Therefore, support for meeting basic needs and creating equal opportunities for the less fortunate is crucial.
“Orphans hold a special position often referenced in various religious teachings. Unfortunately, many of them are overlooked and struggle to meet their daily needs, let alone have the opportunity for personal development,” said Sella Harwa, a member of PERISKA.
For her, it is vital to promote human values in the community to inspire motivation and enthusiasm for achieving goals. Many of these children will be significant contributors to the advancement of the nation in the future.
“Like any other children, they will contribute to the nation’s future. It is essential to offer them support and encouragement to ensure their motivation remains strong,” Sella Harwa stated.
In collaboration with the West Kotawaringin Social Office, PP Muhammadiyah West Kotawaringin, and PP Aisyiyah West Kotawaringin, PT GSIP-AMR recently distributed donations to the Muhammadiyah Orphanage.
This time, the donation was raised voluntarily, totaling almost 20 million rupiah, benefiting 38 children at the orphanage.
The head of the Muhammadiyah Orphanage in Pangkalan Bun expressed that this donation holds significant meaning for them. This act of kindness, he noted, inspires passion in the orphans, allowing them to grow and be recognized in the community.
