PT Sari Lembah Subur (PT SLS), in collaboration with the Community Fire Prevention Movement (MPA), is preparing to prevent the emergence of hotspots in Pangkalan Tampoi Village, Pelalawan Regency, for the year 2025.
Pangkalan Tampoi Village has a history of hotspots in recent years, categorizing it as a region prone to forest and land fires. The area is surrounded by open and unmanaged lands, increasing the risk of fires.
Tofan Hidayat, the Sustainability Assistant at PT SLS, stated that the company and the local community have been working to anticipate hotspots since the end of 2024. He emphasized that collaboration with various community members can enhance awareness of the risks associated with forest and land fires in the coming year.
“To prepare for the dry season in 2025, we are partnering with all stakeholders to proactively address potential fires. This includes our internal teams and local community groups, especially those who carry out daily activities in fire-prone areas, to protect their surroundings,” he said.
The MPA is also equipped with facilities and infrastructure, ensuring they can quickly provide information when a fire occurs. Hidayat hopes that their activities will yield positive results and help prevent the formation of hotspots.
The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts that the dry season in Riau will occur twice—around March and July 2025. PT SLS and Masyarakat Peduli Api have enhanced the skills of their members in using fire management equipment in preparation for next year’s dry season.
M. Basri, the Secretary of Pangkalan Tampoi Village, emphasized the importance of continuously honing fire management skills. He noted that addressing hotspots is essential for preventing fires.
“The joint training we held at the end of this year has ensured that each member can use or store fire equipment properly and effectively,” he explained.
Basri hopes that educating the community on fire management procedures will help prevent the emergence of hotspots. He added that Pangkalan Tampoi Village is ready to support efforts to prevent forest and land fires, as they have allocated a disaster budget for accommodation and other supportive needs.
