As part of the national 1 Million Hectare Simultaneous Planting program initiated by the government, PT Astra Agro Lestari (PT AAL) implemented an intercropping method that combines corn and oil palm crops on oil palm plantation replanting land in Mahe Seberang Village, Tabalong Regency, on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Luqman Hakim Fajar, the Community Development Area Manager at PT AAL, explained that this initiative is the company’s contribution to the government’s efforts to enhance national food self-sufficiency. The intercropping technique enables efficient land use by allowing corn to be planted during the replanting phase of oil palm.
“This method enables the simultaneous growth of both crops without hindering each other’s development. Through this method, we can optimize land use efficiently while supporting food security,” Luqman stated.
According to him, maize was chosen due to its relatively short planting period and can be an innovative solution to optimize the use of plantation land. This method ensures that land management remains sustainable. “Through this program, we hope to support national food security without compromising the sustainability of the plantation sector. This is a tangible manifestation of our commitment to creating adequate food reserves,” Luqman added.
Tabalong Police Chief AKBP Wahyu Ismoyo attended the event. He highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in achieving government initiatives and emphasized that sustainable cultivation is essential for achieving productive outcomes and effective management.
“This joint corn planting program supports the vision of the President of the Republic of Indonesia in promoting food independence. The collaboration between PT AAL, the police, and the community is a key element in realizing food self-sufficiency,” stated AKBP Wahyu.
Also present were the head of the Bin Opsnal Unit of the Tabalong Police Criminal Unit, the Tanjung Police Chief, the Haruai Police Chief, the head of Mahe Seberang Village, and members of the Mekar Taruna Farmer Group from Mahe Seberang Village. This activity is anticipated to be a strategic step in bolstering national food security through cross-sector collaboration.
