To support the President of the Republic of Indonesia’s initiative for a food self-sufficiency program, PT Gunung Sejahtera Dua Indah and PT Gunung Sejahtera Yoli Makmur (PT GSDI-GSYM), in collaboration with the West Kotawaringin Resort Police (Polres), conducted a joint corn planting program on January 21, 2025, within the oil palm plantation concession located in Umpang Village, Central Kalimantan.
The West Kotawaringin Police Chief, represented by the Head of the South Arut Sector Police (Kapolsek), Syaifullah, expressed appreciation for the support provided by this subsidiary of the Astra Agro Group and emphasized their commitment to bolstering food security in accordance with the President’s directives.
“This is a national program. The police of the Republic of Indonesia, who are designated as the driving force, cannot operate alone. Therefore, the involvement of PT GSDI-GSYM as an implementer, along with collaboration from other stakeholders, is essential,” stated Syaifullah.
Echoing this sentiment, Jaswadi, the Partnership Area Manager for Astra Agro in Central Kalimantan, revealed that several subsidiaries of Astra Agro Group in Kalimantan, namely PT SINP-PBNA and PT NAL, also participated in the planting on the same day.
“This initiative represents the company’s concrete effort to contribute to the government’s target of planting 1 million hectares of corn, aimed at strengthening national food security,” stated Jaswadi.
He added that Astra Agro is committed to supporting food security programs in Indonesia, working in collaboration with local communities and farmers. Jaswadi emphasized that community empowerment will be crucial for enhancing sustainable food independence.
He stated that agricultural cultivation must be balanced with sustainable governance to achieve socio-economic and environmental harmony.
This approach ensures that the economic growth of the community is sustainable and does not compromise the preservation of nature.
“Local communities and farmers are strategic partners in this initiative. Through partnerships and corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs, the company continues to provide training and support for effective, efficient, and environmentally friendly agricultural practices,” he concluded.
Also present at the event were the West Kotawaringin Military District Commander (Dandim), represented by the Operations Section Officer (Pasi Ops), along with the Umpang Village and Runtu Village Community Security and Order Supervisors (Babinkamtibnas), as well as the management of PT GSDI-GSYM.(*)
