PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk (AALI) contributed to the One Million Hectare Simultaneous Corn Planting program on Tuesday, September 21, as part of efforts to achieve national food self-sufficiency. This initiative supports President Prabowo Subianto’s food self-sufficiency program, aimed for completion by 2025.
The support was implemented through the allocation of land for hybrid corn planting in the plantation areas of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk in East Kalimantan, specifically at PT Waru Kaltim Plantation (WKP), PT Sukses Tani Nusasubur (STN), PT Borneo Indah Marjaya (BIM), PT Karyanusa Ekadaya (KED), PT Subur Abadi Plantations (SAP), and PT Sumber Kharisma Persada (SKP).
The planting event was led by North Penajam Paser Police Commissioner AKBP Supriyanto, who, along with PT WKP Administrative Manager Eko Andrianto, Community Development Area Manager for Kaltim Hermanto Rudi, Partnership Area Manager for Kaltim-Kalsel Bagus Setiawan, Partnership Management Specialist Sigid Edy Pranata, and PT WKP Sustainability/CSR Assistant Zakaria, took part in the activity.
” This initiative is being carried out by all companies under PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, spanning regions from Sumatra and Kalimantan to Sulawesi,” stated Eko Andrianto.
He explained that this program represents PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk’s commitment in supporting sustainable national development in alignment with government initiatives. This collaboration involves local law enforcement, specifically the North Penajam Paser Police.
Eko assured that PT WKP will continue this program and, after the harvest, will return to the land to replant corn. This effort aims to enhance food production, contributing to one of President Prabowo’s key indicators of success in achieving food self-sufficiency in the city.
“We will continuously collaborate with PT WKP team to manage this effort”, he added.
During that event, Police Commissioner (AKBP) Supriyanto presented approximately 75 kilograms of hybrid corn seeds to the management of PT WKP and local farmer groups. He is proud of the fact that PPU Regency is cultivating corn in the PT WKP and STN areas.
“We aim to support the government’s food self-sufficiency initiative, particularly in the corn planting agenda, as quickly as possible,” said Supriyanto.
He also hopes that PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk will become an example for the Indonesian society, including other companies, in supporting food security in North Penajam Paser.
“The National Police as an institution is given additional duties and responsibilities to support this,” he said. He said he would oversee the corn program, starting from the planting process and fertilization to after harvest.
“Incidentally, what we have planted in the Babulu District area will be harvested 10 to 15 days later. Hopefully, the corn we have harvested will become seeds for the next planting,” he added. Meanwhile, the Head of the PPU Agriculture Office, Andi Trasodiharto, welcomed the activity, which could be a step toward accelerating food self-sufficiency.
Collaboration between the local government and police agencies, from the district to the village level, will maximize the increase in agricultural yields, especially corn commodities.
“This is a good step, especially with our oil palm plantation friends who have also encouraged us to accelerate food self-sufficiency,” Andi said.
He said the local government appreciated the Police and the private sector, in this case PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk.
“We are ready to assist, both in theory, so that the results can be met by the targets we expect,” he added.
