As a tangible form of commitment to environmental sustainability, one of the subsidiaries of PT Astra Agro Lestari Tbk, PT Gunung Sejahtera Ibu Pertiwi (GSIP) and PT Agro Menara Rachmat (AMR) organized a planting initiative of Blangeran Trees along the banks of the Kuning River in Pandu Senjaya Village, Pangkalan Lada District, Kotawaringin Barat Regency, Central Kalimantan.
This event was held in commemoration of World Water Day and World Forest Day, with goals to preserve river ecosystems, reduce erosion, and raise public awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources.
Blangeran trees play a vital role in environmental conservation, especially along riverbanks. Their strong roots hold the soil firmly, effectively preventing erosion and stabilizing riverbanks.
Additionally, these trees contribute to an ecological balance by providing natural habitats for various local fauna. Jumilan, the Head of Pandu Senjaya Village, expressed gratitude for the initiative from PT GSIP-AMR.
He noted that such efforts are concrete steps toward maintaining nature’s balance and ensuring environmental sustainability, particularly in vulnerable riverbank areas.
“It is hoped that this activity can inspire collective awareness for preserving the environment and creating a healthier, more sustainable ecosystem for future generations,” he stated.
The initiative emphasizes tree planting while also incorporating environmental education for the local community.
The event welcomed the CDO and Conservation of PT. GSIP AMR, the Subdistrict Secretary, the ICS Village team, Agricultural Extension Workers, and the BPD of Pandu Senjaya Village.
Participants engaged in discussions about the significance of conserving forest and water resources as part of a collective effort to tackle climate change.
The community’s enthusiasm was evident in their active participation in planting seedlings and exploring concrete actions to uphold environmental sustainability in their area.
Pingkan Nabilla from the CSR of PT GSIP-AMR highlighted that tree planting along riverbanks not only maintains water quality and prevents erosion but also provides ecological benefits for the surrounding flora and fauna.
“This activity embodies our commitment to supporting the SDGs targets, particularly the 6th goal (Clean Water and Sanitation), the 13th (Climate Action), and the 15th (Life on Land),” said Pingkan.
Through this initiative, PT GSIP-AMR reaffirms its dedication to sustainability, aligning with Astra Agro’s policy to foster environmental stewardship.
This endeavor serves as a beacon of inspiration for all to continue contributing to the balance of nature for a brighter future.
