One of Astra Agro Lestari’s (AAL) subsidiaries, PT Letawa, which operates in the palm oil plantation industry, is dedicated to community health. On Thursday, March 27, 2025, the company provided incentive assistance to posyandu (health post) cadres and supplementary food packages for toddlers in the Tikke Raya District of Pasangkayu Regency, West Sulawesi.
Kartini, the head of the Tikke Raya Community Health Center, expressed her appreciation for PT Letawa’s commitment to supporting the community, noting that this assistance is greatly beneficial for local residents. She stated that PT Letawa’s efforts to provide incentives to posyandu cadres and supplementary food assistance (PMT) are crucial for improving children’s nutrition and reducing stunting rates.
Ahmad Faizal, the Assistant Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Manager at PT Letawa, emphasized that the program aims to enhance the welfare of posyandu cadres in 17 local health posts. He mentioned that they are also working on establishing dasawisma (community vegetable gardens) to increase vegetable availability, which serves as a nutritional source in residents’ yards. This initiative is expected to contribute to the overall health quality in nearby villages.
Unari Sarmidi, the Administrator of PT Letawa, highlighted the significance of collaboration between the company and the village government in ensuring access to quality healthcare. He stated that investing in the health sector is a vital commitment to the community’s future. “Therefore, PT Letawa will continue to focus on supporting health initiatives in the areas surrounding the company,” he affirmed.
Dr. Asmal Mustafa, a physician at the Kebun Polyclinic (Polibun) of PT Letawa, mentioned during a CSR coordination meeting with local health officials that the role of posyandu cadres in promoting public health is crucial. He underscored the company’s social responsibility to support these cadres, allowing them to concentrate more on their duties, as they work diligently to reach the community and provide quality health services.
In a separate statement, Agus Setiawan, the Chief Development Officer (CDO) of PT Letawa, explained that as a sustainable palm oil agribusiness, the company is committed to its community through four key pillars: Education and Culture, Economic Development, Environment, and Health. “One of our CSR activities in the health sector includes providing incentives for posyandu cadres in our immediate area,” he noted.
Agus added that in addition to the incentives, the company supports maternal and child health by distributing PMT for toddlers during posyandu activities. “Through this program, we aim to strengthen our synergy with the community and create a sustainable positive impact in health and social welfare,” he said.
He also stated that through various CSR initiatives, including the ‘Astra Sehat’ program, PT Letawa not only focuses on the sustainability of the palm oil industry but also actively participates in enhancing community welfare. “In the future, we hope to continue collaborating with various stakeholders to generate broader benefits for the surrounding environment,” he concluded.
